Tell NM Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham: Stop giving the oil and gas industry a free pass to pollute

Help us end the oil and gas industry’s free pass to pollute in New Mexico! Harmful chemicals used in oil and gas operations can threaten water, wildlife, and people alike – and yet the industry doesn't have to tell us all the chemicals they use. These chemicals don't just persist in the oilfields, they are disposed of as oil and gas waste in landfills across the entire state.

A recent report revealed the oil and gas industry is using toxic forever chemicals, known as PFAS, when drilling and fracking in New Mexico. In response, WildEarth Guardians has called on the New Mexico Oil Conservation Commission and Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to ban the use of PFAS by oil and gas companies and require full disclosure of all chemicals they use.

Already the governor has called for an end to the use of PFAS in other industries. Now she and the Oil Conservation Commission need to hold the oil and gas industry accountable and revoke their ability to keep chemicals like PFAS a secret. We argue a new rule to require this before the Oil Conservation Commission November 12-15, 2024!

Our Climate & Energy team is working hard to create laws that shield people and wildlife from chemical pollution in New Mexico. Sign the petition today and help us protect frontline communities from the oil and gas industry!
