Protect vulnerable ancient wetlands in our National Forests

Fens are a rare type of “old-growth” wetland that play a crucial role in climate resilience and are renowned as biodiversity hotspots.

These wetlands take thousands of years to form. Once damaged, they are impossible to restore to their original condition and can quickly go from being a carbon sink to a carbon source, making them an irreplaceable part of our natural heritage.

However, fens lack the federal protections needed to remain intact and healthy in the face of threats including new dams, grazing, pollution, and other human disturbances.

Add your name to support our formal petition asking the Forest Service to provide stronger legal protections for fens!
